Recreational activities in Rockhampton

By David Bell

If you own real estate in Rockhampton or are looking to buy you may not be aware of all that the city has to offer – from its natural beauty to its bustling infrastructure.

Rockhampton Art Gallery is known for housing many works by Australian artists, specifically focusing on mid twentieth-century pieces.

The Botanical Gardens are a testimony to what nature can produce and are regarded as one of the best in regional Australia. The gardens, which are kept in excellent condition, boast a variety of ferns, palms and cycads with some examples over 100 years old.

Rockhampton Zoo is near the gardens and the animals there range from domestic to exotic, including koalas, chimpanzees and even red kangaroos. The zoo's dedication to protecting wildlife is well known, with the wombat research centre dedicated to growing the population of the endangered northern hairy-nosed wombat.

If the kids have minds for engineering rather than zoology, then why not take in the Archer Park Steam Tram Museum and see how the public transport system worked back in 1909?

For a more nature-filled experience, there is the Mount Archer National Park, which provides walking tracks and spectacular views of the city.
