Should Tenants be Responsible For the Lawns?

By David Bell

Some people with investment real estate in Rockhampton let their tenants take charge of the garden and lawn maintenance, while others prefer a hands on approach.

This decision may also hinge upon the type of garden the property features. For example, if there are shrubs and plants that require specialist care you may be happier looking after them yourself.

Consider how much time you realistically want to spend maintaining your rental property. If it has a particularly big garden, it might be a more practical decision to let your tenants take care of it.

When making this decision about your real estate in Norman Gardens or anywhere else in Rockhampton, there are a few key things to keep in mind.

– If the tenant is going to be given any responsibility for the lawns, it should be included in the tenancy agreement.

– Pruning and lopping of trees is still the landlords responsibility as there is a risk tenants could damage your property.

– If a tenant intentionally or carelessly causes damage to a tree or shrub, they may be liable for its replacement or for compensation.
